Songwriting has changed big time. It's no longer enough to write a bunch of chords, lyrics and a melody. That was the 60s.
This is now: More than one million songs are released every year! That's not counting those "THIKK BEATZ" your brother-in-law uploads to Soundcloud every week.
The competition is HUGE and everyone and their neighbor wants to quit their job to go on tour with their band.
If you want to be taken seriously as a songwriter today, you can't just write a lead sheet - you need to be able to arrange and produce demos. And in this sentence, "demo" means "99% finished product".
As a songwriter, you're in charge of making sure that your song sounds great in its entirety. That means you need to understand what each band member is doing and how it contributes to the whole.
You're the woman/man/person with the vision! You're the one who makes sure each band member gets to shine in their own way.
But you're also the only one who knows what's in your head. And so if you instruct your drummer to play a fat beat over a guitar part, there is a slim chance he'll do exactly what you had in mind. In most cases, he'll play something completely different.
It's your musicians' job to sound great. It's your job to make sure they sound good together and that they actually have something meaningful to say.
Can I ask you a question that might hurt a little bit?
When you listen to a song, how much of the emotional experience is because of the words, the chords or the melody...
...and how much is because of the way the band grooves together, because of the way those chords morph with the bass in the most satisfying way, because of the way the vocals break at just the right moment?
Too many great songs have been ruined by shitty performances, arrangements and productions. Let me make sure that doesn't happen to your songs.
I will give you access to ALL the buttons and levers in your songwriting cockpit, not just to chords, melody and lyrics but to groove, part-writing, arrangement, performance, production and many more.
Take full control of your songs and write the music you've always wanted to write that sounds exactly like you've always wanted it to sound.
